TT No. 224: Integration of Banana (berangan variety) with Oil Palm Planted in Double Avenue Planting System

Maximum land use of oil palm area through crop integration can generate additional income to farmers especially during the immature phase of oil palm. One of the crops which has been identified suitable to be integrated with oil palm is pisang berangan. It is very popular among Malaysians and highly demanded for local consumption. It is a nonseasonal fruit and is available at the market throughout the year. The crop can be grown on a wide range of soils. However, for high yield and good return, banana planting needs deep soil profile with good drainage and on flat to gentle slope topography. Planting of banana is not suitable on sandy soils and flood proned areas.
