<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Noodles are staple food in many Asian&nbsp;countries and account for more&nbsp;than 12% of global wheat production&nbsp;each year (Euromonitor, 2013).&nbsp;The world market size for noodle&nbsp;products had reached a total value of USD 2300&nbsp;million in year 2013. Market players are aware of&nbsp;health concerns and some have initiated moves&nbsp;to provide healthier options (Euromonitor, 2013).&nbsp;Many functional ingredients have been added into&nbsp;noodle formulations to provide better nutrition&nbsp;profile. Red palm olein, a unique product from&nbsp;crude palm oil, which is the richest natural source&nbsp;of carotenes (500-1500 ppm) and a rich source of&nbsp;tocols (700-1000 ppm) (Choo et al., 1993; Mayamol&nbsp;et al., 2007) is formulated into a stable delivery&nbsp;system and incorporated into the noodle.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ice cream is a complex combination of&nbsp;partially frozen foam of emulsion held&nbsp;together by emulsified fat. Ice cream is&nbsp;made by freezing and aerating pasteurised&nbsp;mix with agitation to incorporate air for a&nbsp;smooth and good consistency.&nbsp;Dairy fats are commonly used in the production of&nbsp;ice cream. They are primarily derived from milk,&nbsp;cream, butter and anhydrous milk fat. Milk fat is&nbsp;the major fat component in ice cream. The fat component&nbsp;contributes to the richness of flavour in ice&nbsp;cream. However, vegetable fats such as palm oil,&nbsp;palm kernel oil and coconut oil are being used to&nbsp;replace milk fat in ice cream. Besides being comparatively&nbsp;cheaper than milk fat, palm oil and its&nbsp;fractions are widely available. These oils could be&nbsp;tailor-made to meet the specific requirements for&nbsp;ice cream fat such as the melting point, solid fat&nbsp;content and fatty acid composition.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In culinary arts, the word fondant can refer&nbsp;to one or two types of sugar-based pastes&nbsp;used in preparing and decorating cakes,&nbsp;pastries and confectioneries. There are two&nbsp;types of fondant: 1) poured fondant, and&nbsp;2) rolled fondant. Poured fondant is a sweet,&nbsp;creamy paste that can be used as a filling or icing&nbsp;for pastries. Rolled fondant is almost like very&nbsp;sweet dough.&nbsp;Not many scientific papers on rolled fondant are&nbsp;available. Most literatures are limited to recipe&nbsp;books.&nbsp;Butter has been the established fat suggested in&nbsp;many recipe books for this sugar/fat mixture&nbsp;(Knott, 2013; Parrish, 2013; Deacon, 2003). Functionally,&nbsp;fat affects the melting point, viscosity&nbsp;and body, crystallinity and spreadability of many&nbsp;foods (ADA Reports, 2005). The same thing applies&nbsp;in rolled fondant. The amount of fat may&nbsp;influence the quality characteristics of the final&nbsp;product. In a sensory evaluation on cake frostings&nbsp;by Drewnowski and Schwart (1990), reported&nbsp;that the acceptability of cake frostings was a combined&nbsp;function of sucrose and fat levels.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In general, it is well-known that vegetablebased&nbsp;waxes have many industrial applications&nbsp;and environmental benefits against&nbsp;petroleum-based wax. One of the many&nbsp;examples is in the production of candles.&nbsp;However, there are other areas where vegetablebased&nbsp;waxes can play a significant role. One of&nbsp;which is in the making of batik prints or designs.&nbsp;Batik printing is a process of decorating plain fabrics&nbsp;by covering a part of the material with a layer&nbsp;of wax and then dyeing the whole fabrics. The&nbsp;waxed areas would maintain their original colour&nbsp;because they are not dyed. When the wax is removed,&nbsp;the contrast in colours between the dyed&nbsp;and undyed fabrics gives the desired patterns.&nbsp;The unique characteristic effects of this technique&nbsp;are contributed by the fine cracks that are present&nbsp;in the wax, which allow small amount of dyes to&nbsp;seep in, thus giving some spectacular ecstatic batik&nbsp;designs.&nbsp;Batik wax exercises an important function in the&nbsp;process of batik printing. Proper usage of wax results&nbsp;in an impeccable batik works. A traditional&nbsp;recipe for batik wax is a mixture of beeswax and&nbsp;paraffin. But most of the batik today is painted using&nbsp;synthetic waxes.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Lipstick base is a substance that is used&nbsp;to make lipsticks, balms or lip glosses.&nbsp;Lipsticks are intended to impart attractive&nbsp;colours, enhance the appearance&nbsp;of lips and hide unattractive features,&nbsp;such as very thick or very narrow lips. A lipstick&nbsp;is a combination of lipstick base and pigments.&nbsp;The major components of a lipstick base are oils&nbsp;and waxes. The addition of pigments to a lipstick&nbsp;base offers a wide range of colours appealing to&nbsp;consumers. Currently, castor oil, jojoba oil, bees&nbsp;wax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, lanolin and&nbsp;ozokerite are used predominantly in lipstick formulations.&nbsp;Oils contain fatty acids, for example,&nbsp;castor oil consists of ricinoleic, oleic, linoleic, linolenic,&nbsp;stearic, palmitic and dihydroxystearic.&nbsp;All fatty acids except ricinoleic can be replaced by&nbsp;palm oil and its derivatives such as middle chain&nbsp;tryglyceride, isopropyl myristate, octyldodecyl&nbsp;myristate and cetyl alcohol. To add functionality,&nbsp;palm-based vitamin E can be added to enhance its&nbsp;antioxidant properties. This technology on palm&nbsp;lipstick base uses 60% palm-based materials.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Water-cast gels are used as facial&nbsp;masks with the potentials to adhere&nbsp;to the keratinous surface,&nbsp;hydrate and deliver the enriched&nbsp;supplements across the skin epidermis.&nbsp;The term hydrogel describes three-dimensional&nbsp;network structures obtained from a class of&nbsp;synthetic and/or natural polymers which can absorb&nbsp;and retain significant amount of water. The&nbsp;hydrogel structure is created by the hydrophilic&nbsp;groups or domains present in a polymeric network&nbsp;upon hydration in an aqueous environment (Rosiak&nbsp;and Yoshii, 1999).&nbsp;Interestingly, the skin is the largest organ of the&nbsp;human body and the logical target for supplement&nbsp;delivery. Gels have potential as supplement delivery&nbsp;systems because of their ease of administration&nbsp;and hydration on contact with keratinocytes&nbsp;surfaces on the skin that allow diffusion out of the&nbsp;gel. However, gels are limited by low supplement&nbsp;loading capacity because of their thin nature and&nbsp;not all gel forming polymers are bioadhesive.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Shower gel, also known as bodywash,&nbsp;is the general term for liquid soap. It&nbsp;is available either in emulsion or clear&nbsp;types of products and used as a skin&nbsp;cleansing agent during showering&nbsp;or bathing. Shower gels are a combination of&nbsp;surfactants, water, skin conditioning agents and&nbsp;fragrances. It has chemical advantages over soap&nbsp;because it is milder at cleansing and less irritating&nbsp;to the skin, lathers better in hard water areas and&nbsp;does not leave a mineral residue on the skin or in&nbsp;the bath tub after usage. Almost all commercial&nbsp;shower gels are formulated with petroleum-based&nbsp;materials (Wikipedia).&nbsp;The objective of this technology is to promote the&nbsp;utilisation of palm-based materials in shower gel&nbsp;products. Palm-based shower gels (Figure 1) were&nbsp;formulated with mild surfactants, 83% palmbased&nbsp;materials and natural exfoliating agents, tea&nbsp;tree leaf, apricot kernel and rice scrub.&nbsp;</p>

For example,&nbsp;when the human hand is positioned&nbsp;(Figure 1) on the memory foam, the foam progressively&nbsp;conforms to the shape of the hand, and after&nbsp;the hand is removed, the foam slowly resumes&nbsp;to its initial shape. In general, memory foams are&nbsp;used in pillows, upholstered furniture, flooring&nbsp;underlays, cushioning, and as foams for noise and&nbsp;vibration harshness (NVH) control (Figure 2).</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Memory foams are produced mostly via slab-stock&nbsp;process with toluene diisocyanate (TDI) based&nbsp;formulations. Recent trend in development of&nbsp;methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) based&nbsp;formulations for manufacturing of both slab-stock&nbsp;and molded memory foams are driven by the need&nbsp;for performance and processing improvements as&nbsp;well as environmental (regulatory) demands and&nbsp;safety concerns (Smiecinski and Neff, 2006)&nbsp;This technology relates to the development of environmental-friendly&nbsp;memory foams made from&nbsp;palm oil-based polyols (Pioneer E-120 and Pioneer&nbsp;ES-145). These memory foams contain MDI as the&nbsp;polyisocyanates component, palm oil-based polyols&nbsp;and petroleum-based polyols in the presence of&nbsp;additives and water as a blowing agent.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Termites are known to impact negatively&nbsp;on agriculture and construction industry&nbsp;imposing great damage to plantations&nbsp;and buildings. Financial loss&nbsp;due to termites infestations in Malaysia&nbsp;was estimated at RM 8- RM 10 million annually&nbsp;(Lee, 2002). The common method in termites&nbsp;control is by the use of emulsifiable concentrate&nbsp;termiticides. Such emulsifiable concentrates (EC)&nbsp;are petrochemicals-based and may pose risks to&nbsp;humans, animals, plants and ecosystem. Current&nbsp;EC-termiticides may cause skin and eye irritations.&nbsp;Recently, the pesticide industry has made a&nbsp;good progress in using low risk, environmental friendly&nbsp;pesticide formulations. There is a growing&nbsp;demand for environmental-friendly water-based&nbsp;pesticide formulations such as palm-based&nbsp;emulsion-in-water (EW) (Ismail et al., 2003; 2007).&nbsp;Palm-based EW consists of pesticides dissolved in&nbsp;water immiscible solvent, dispersed in oil phase&nbsp;droplets in the presence of surfactants.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Medium density fibreboard (MDF)&nbsp;is a bio-composite widely used&nbsp;particularly in furniture and&nbsp;building products. In Malaysia,&nbsp;most MDF plants use rubberwood&nbsp;(RW) as raw material, and of late the industry is&nbsp;facing a problem with the inconsistency in supply&nbsp;and the price hike of RW. Other materials such as&nbsp;mixed tropical hardwood (MTH) are used as part&nbsp;of raw materials to substitute RW for MDF production.&nbsp;The industry has to find an alternative&nbsp;material which is abundantly available, renewable&nbsp;and price competitive compared with normal&nbsp;wood. The palm oil mill produces about 22%&nbsp;of empty fruit bunch (EFB) from the fresh fruit&nbsp;bunch (FFB) being processed, and in 2013 there&nbsp;was about 8 million tonnes (dry weight) of EFB&nbsp;produced in Malaysia. Although EFB is a fibrous&nbsp;material, it has characteristics that are similar&nbsp;with other wood or lignocellulosic materials. The&nbsp;MDF from EFB blended with RW and MTH was&nbsp;produced at a pilot scale and results were very&nbsp;promising particularly on the mechanical properties.&nbsp;Optimum results were obtained for blending&nbsp;ratio up to 20% EFB fibres. The swelling property&nbsp;declined beyond the acceptable limit with higher&nbsp;loading of EFB fibres. All properties are below the&nbsp;minimum standard requirements (EN 622-5,2006)&nbsp;for MDF panel produced from 100% EFB fibres.&nbsp;</p>
